Meet Question Beauty, an indie brand from New Zealand, now available in Canada. Founded in 2023 by a New Zealand painter, the brand built its name on one thing: multichrome colour, or as they put it, "the purest bright colours." The name is the whole idea. Question Beauty asks who decided what counts as acceptable makeup, then hands you a permission slip to wear navy-to-gold pigment on a Tuesday. Their tagline says it plainly: creativity looks great on you.
That point of view has built a following most brands launched in 2023 can only dream of, with hundreds of thousands of people watching the swatch videos and the colour shifts. Everything is vegan and cruelty-free, made without mined mica or microplastics. Designed in New Zealand, packaged by hand.
The first thing to land here was the mascara topper, a sheer colour-shifting layer you brush over your usual mascara to turn black lashes into something that catches the light and shifts as you move. Ten shades:
- Bronze Mirage: Molten bronze with gold and soft-green shifts for a warm, dimensional glow that flatters every eye colour. Made for bronzed, sunlit looks.

The mascara toppers were the introduction. The core of Question Beauty is the multichrome range it is built around, and that range is on its way to Canada now. A multichrome does not actually change colour. Tiny pigment flakes catch light at different angles, so one shade reads as several depending on how you move. Over a tacky base or a black primer the shift reads brightest, which is why the pigments travel with their own application kit.
Multichrome loose pigments are the heart of the brand: eleven loose colour-shifting shades that catch a different tone from every angle. Pair them with the Gel Primer or Mixing Medium to lock the shift in place.

Multichrome eyeliner pencils bring the same shift to a creamy pencil that lays down as liner, smudges into a shadow base, or stamps a graphic accent. Soft in everyday light, brighter in sun. Five shades: Pearl Keeper (silver to blue), Oceanic Symphony (blue to purple to pink), Bronze Mirage (bronze to gold to green), Playful Spring (pink to gold to green), and Jungle Mirage (green to gold to blue).
Garden of Iridescent Wings is Chapter 4 in Question Beauty's collectible palette series: a garden after dark, where iridescent beetles catch the moonlight and every petal carries a colour shift. Ten pressed pans, five pressed multichromes (Born to Shift, Iridescent Wings, Playful Spring, Jewel Plated, and Living Jewel) paired with five garden-inspired matte and shimmer shades in luminous blues, greens, and gold. The application kit. Loose multichromes go on best with a little prep, so the range comes with everything that makes the shift sit and last. The Gel Primer is a clear tacky base that holds the shift and extends wear, in a 3ml childproof jar. The Black Primer is a matte black base that deepens pigments so the colour reads brighter and more saturated than it does over bare skin. The Mixing Medium is a clear liquid that turns any loose pigment into a waterproof, long-wear liner or face and body art, drying in about thirty seconds. And the Mixing Palette, in clear or holographic gold, gives you a flat surface with a thumb cutout to blend on before anything goes on the face.
Most of this is hard to get in Canada through the brand directly: expensive international shipping from New Zealand, long delivery timeframes, and high, unpredictable customs and brokerage fees on top. The full range is shipped from BC instead.
